About Continuum of Learning
A new community partnership for Sangamon County, Illinois, the Continuum of Learning, was launched at a community event in March 2008. The Continuum of Learning will strive to ensure all in Sangamon County are Ready to Learn, Ready to Work and Ready to Succeed.
There are three coordinating partners leading this initiative including the Community Foundation for the Land of Lincoln and their Community Works Initiative, The Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce through the Business/Education Partnership of Sangamon County and United Way of Central Illinois. Each of these partners has committed to provide support and resources to this initiative as our community moves forward in setting a new vision to ensure everyone in Sangamon County is Ready to Learn, Ready to Work and Ready to Succeed.
The Continuum of Learning coordinating partners have engaged community leaders that have convened action teams to identify the vision and take the steps to move our community toward the vision.
A strong foundation has been laid for the Continuum of Learning. In 2006, the Community Need Assessment Report coordinated by United Way outlined the unmet needs in our community. From reviewing the report, it was recognized that the root causes of many of the unmet needs could be addressed through education and employment. By supporting a learning environment, which leads to employment opportunities, our community can successfully address a number of our unmet community needs.
Further, in 2007, The Chamber launched Q5, an economic development initiative. One of the five strategies being addressed by Q5 is to develop education and workforce excellence to ensure local employers are prevailing in their markets with workers of excellence.
Additionally, the Community Foundation for the Land of Lincoln has embarked upon an initiative called Community Works. Funded by a matching grant from the Grand Victoria Foundation and community donations, this initiative also focuses on workforce development and child care.
The momentum exists for the Continuum of Learning, our community has positioned itself to bring together the resources to make a measurable impact in improving our community.
The structure for the Continuum of Learning includes three coordinating partners, a steering committee and five action teams. Click the links below to learn more on each of these components of the Continuum of Learning.
